Hilton Head Golf Courses
In
addition to the three great golf courses right on Palmetto
Dunes, Robert Trent Jones, Arthur Hills and George Fazio, there
are numerous other courses on the island for you to enjoy.
The Barony
The 18-hole Barony Course appears relatively open until you
reach the green where the whole complexion of the course
changes. Surrounded by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, the
greens are small and require a soft touch with medium and short
irons. Accuracy, not distance, is the key to a good game on the
Barony. A delightful course for all skill levels, the Barony is
6,038 yards from the regular tees. Pay close attention to the
back nine with its wonderful mix of long and short holes.
Planters Row
Designed and completed in 1984 by William Byrd, Planters Row's
fairways are lined with gorgeous low country trees and has
enough bunkers to challenge any grade of golfer. Site of the
Hilton Head Seniors International Golf Tournament, it is a full
6520 yards from the championship tees. Golf Reporter Magazine
selected Planters Row "One of the Top 50 Courses in the
Carolinas".
Robbers Row
Recently re-designed by renowned golf course architect Pete Dye,
Robbers Row is sure to be Port Royal's newest shining star.
Winding through beautiful live oaks and magnolias and built atop
what were once Civil War battlegrounds and the historic town of
Port Royal, Robbers Row will sternly challenge any golfer's
skills.
Shipyard Golf Club
In Shipyard Plantation, the Shipyard Golf Club is 27 holes of
great golf in a Lowcountry setting of live oaks, pines,
magnolias, ponds and many lagoons that must be negotiated if you
are to play your handicap. Accurate tee shots and measured
approaches are a must on this course and large, well bunkered
greens on undulating surfaces demand a delicate touch when
putting. From 1982 to 1984, the Shipyard Golf Club was rated one
of the finest layouts on the Senior PGA Tour.
Hilton Head National
Hilton Head National is designed by Gary Player. Located just
off island, this 18-hole course is a par 72. Golfers can expect
a relaxing, enjoyable day of golf rather than being overwhelmed
by frustrating hazards.
Country Club of Hilton Head
Located in Hilton Head Plantation, the Country Club of Hilton
Head is a marvelous 18-hole course designed by Rees Jones.
Winding through a pristine Lowcountry setting, this course
offers challenges for any grade of golfer.
Old South
From forests to open pastures to tidal marshes, Old South's
award-winning designer Clyde Johnston pulled out all the stops
to keep this course a part of the surrounding landscape.
18-holes of spectacular golf with some of the most dazzling
island greens anywhere! On the mainland, Old South is located
just minutes from the Hilton Head bridge.
Indigo Run
From the opening hole, players begin to sense the special charm
of the Indigo Run Golf Club. The natural lowcountry landscape of
the beautiful setting is enhanced from tee to green on each
distinctive hole. Mature oak, cypress and pine forests mix with
meandering lagoons to frame fairways and greens.
Palmetto Hall
Great golf is the heart of Palmetto Hall Plantation. Renowned
designer Arthur Hills created the community's first course,
which was rated one of the nation's "Top 10 New Courses" for
1991 by Golf Digest and one of Hilton Head's "Top Three Layouts"
by Golf Magazine. Palmetto Hall's second course, designed by
Golf World Magazine's "Architect of the Year" Robert Cupp, is a
scenic delight skirting vast sawgrass marshes and dense forests
of oak and pine.
Old Carolina
One of Hilton Head's newest masterpieces, Old Carolina Golf Club
is already being touted as one of the Lowcountry's finest public
courses. Using the same unspoken design guidelines that have
made the Hilton Head area so unique, Old Carolina was
masterfully sculpted to blend with the surroundings by
award-winning architect Clyde Johnston.
Built on the site of a thoroughbred horse farm, Old Carolina
retains all the Lowcountry charm of its location's past. From
the moment you drive down the oak-lined driveway to the original
horse barn, you will realize this is unlike any other course
Hilton Head has to offer.
Oyster Reef
Designed by Rees Jones, Oyster Reef is a par 72 course featuring
elevated tees and fairways lined by thick stands of live oaks
and pines. Oyster Reef offers a test worthy of the most skilled
golfer, along with spectacular views of Port Royal Sound from
the signature 6th hole, one of the most spectacular on the
island |
